WHAT IS THE HYROX READINESS TEST

powered by OUTPUT SPORTS

The HYROX Readiness Test is an official, race-specific assessment designed to show athletes where they currently stand and what they should prioritize before race day. Using the Output Sports platform, each athlete’s performance is recorded, scored, and benchmarked against HYROX performance data to create an overall HYROX Conditioning Score from 0–100, along with a movement-by-movement breakdown of strengths and development areas.

The RowErg and SkiErg measure aerobic capacity, pacing, technique, and the ability to maintain output as fatigue builds. Burpee broad jumps assess full-body conditioning and movement efficiency, while reverse lunges reveal single-leg muscular endurance and coordination under fatigue. Wall balls test lower-body endurance, movement quality, pacing, and the ability to continue working when physically and mentally fatigued. The 5K time accounts for running fitness, which represents a significant portion of a HYROX race.

The final report helps identify whether an athlete is being limited by running, erg performance, muscular endurance, movement efficiency, pacing, or fatigue resistance. Our coaches use those results to create more individualized training recommendations, establish a clear baseline, and guide future programming. By retesting throughout the training process, athletes can objectively track improvement, confirm that their program is working, and approach race day with greater confidence and a more informed strategy.

The test follows a structured work-to-rest format and includes:

1) 8-minute maximum-distance RowErg

2) 4 minutes of burpee broad jumps, immediately followed by 4 minutes of bodyweight reverse lunges

3) 8-minute maximum-distance SkiErg

4) 4-minute maximum wall-ball test

5) A recent 5K run time, completed separately or submitted as part of the assessment
